URINETOWN SET

For the UVa Drama Spring 2018 Season, I constructed the set for Urinetown.  As the lead welder I welded the frame, supporting legs, and railings.  The small project of note is the curved railing made out of 2x2 square tubing.  I had to cut slits along the inside of the bend and weld the curve in place.

PIRATES OF PENZANCE HOT AIR BALLOON

For the 2016 Heritage Theatre Festival season, I constructed a basket for the hot air balloon that flew in from offstage.  This was my first major solo welding project.

BASKERVILLE DOORS

For the 2017 Heritage Theatre Festival season, I constructed 5 door frames that rolled on casters.  I needed to cut sections out of the 1x2 steel and weld on a plate so the caster could be bolted to the frame as compactly as possible.  I made a jig that slid onto the end of the 1x2 and cut the sections out with a plasma torch.

BASKERVILLE PLATFORMS

For the 2017 Heritage Theatre Festival season, I constructed a rolling platform with pneumatic braking.  There is a door on the back side that opens for props and accessing the air tank.

DANCE MARLEY STORAGE CART

I constructed a cart that holds the rolls of dance marley for ease of storage and preservation.  I welded solid rod into the end of pipe to rest inside pillow blocks.  On one side I welded a 5/8" x 3" long nut to work as the hand crank connector.  To store the marley floor you tape one end onto the pipe and simply roll it up with the hand crank.  To unload you just pull it off and it unrolls itself.
